Source: Man questioned in Center City sex assault

A 33-year-old woman was sexually assaulted this morning after stepping out of an elevator in a Center City parking garage, police said.

Detectives are questioning a man in his 30s in connection with the attack, which took place a stone's throw from the Community College of Philadelphia, a police source said.

The assault took place just before 11 a.m., police said. A couple who had just parked their vehicle in the garage — which is not affiliated with the college — heard the victim's screams and investigated, according to the source.

Telling his wife to wait in the car, the bystander ran over to the source of the screams and chased an unknown man away from the garage before calling police.

Minutes later, officers in the area arrested a man who matched the description given by the witness, the source said.

He has not been formally charged in the attack.

Meanwhile, the victim — who did not know her attacker — was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition, police said.
