Shooting at Mayfair playground leaves 2 critically wounded

A fight in a Mayfair playground led to gunfire Friday night, leaving two men fighting for their lives after they were shot and critically wounded.
Police were called to Lower Mayfair Playground, at Robbins and Hawthorne streets, just after 9 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. Police rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he was in extremely critical condition around 10 p.m.
Police said they were unsure whether that man would survive his wounds.
A short time later, a second victim in the shooting, a 21-year-old man, was dropped off at Nazareth Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia, Small said. That man had three gunshot wounds – one to the abdomen and one in each thigh – and was being transferred to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.
Small said that blood stained the ground near a roller-hockey rink at the playground, and police found a revolver at the scene. No shell casings were found, and the shooting remained under investigation late Friday.
Witnesses told police that an argument precipitated the shooting, Small said.
Investigators are checking the cameras at the Ethan Allen School next to the playground to see if they captured the shooting, and police are on the lookout for a gray sedan that the shooter or shooters may have driven from the playground.
