Seven men are being questioned following a fatal shooting and police standoff outside a home in Logan.

Just before 6 p.m., police received numerous reports of gunfire on Ruscomb Street near Old York Road, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. When they arrived, the officers found two men, who both live in the area, shot in front of a house on the block.

One man, 24, had been shot in the neck and shoulder. Another, 23, had been shot in the leg. Both were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where the 24-year-old was pronounced dead about a half-hour later, Small said. The other victim remains at the hospital overnight in stable condition.

After the shooting, the suspects fled into the home and barricaded themselves inside. They refused to come out, and waged a standoff with SWAT unit personnel and other officers for about two hours, Small said.

"We believe [the shooters] ran into a home where they either resided, or were familiar with," Small said.

When the situation ended, seven men were taken into custody. Small said that none had been charged last night, and that the group included a combination of suspected shooters and people inside the home when the shooters entered it. They were being interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives.

Behind the house, police found at least four guns, including rifles and handguns. It's not clear if they were the ones used in the shooting, Small said.

The motive for the shooting isn't known, but police are considering gang activity a possibility.

The shooting doesn't appear to be related to another slaying about a mile away at La Salle University, police said.
