Mid-afternoon shooting in Parkside leaves one dead

A mid-afternoon shooting in West Philadelphia's Parkside section claimed the life of a man Monday, police said.

The victim, age 25, was on Thompson Street near Lancaster Avenue shortly after 2 p.m. when police say someone shot him several times in the upper torso.

The man, whose identity police have not yet released pending family notification, was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was pronounced dead there at 2:41 p.m.

Police said they have not made any arrests in the shooting.
