Police are searching for suspects in connection with a shooting that left a 24-year-old man hospitalized Wednesday night.

Shots rang out at about 7:30 p.m. on Westminster Avenue near 51st Street in the Mill Creek section of West Philadelphia, police said.

Shortly after the incident, Chief Inspector Scott Small said the man was shot three times, and was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Lt. John Walker, of the Southwest Detective Division said the man was shot in his chest, arm and stomach and was in surgery just before 1 a.m.

Walker said the man had not yet been interviewed by police, and a description of a possible suspect was not immediately available.

Walker said the man was involved with "ladies of the evening," at a nearby hotel and was shot after spending nearly an hour inside.

Police were unsure early Thursday morning of what circumstances led to the man being shot after he left the hotel.
