Man shot in Holmesburg, hospitalized

This post has been updated

A 28-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot in his left leg on Frankford Avenue near Welsh Road in Holmesburg, police said.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. in front of a Dollar Tree store, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Medics took the man to Aria-Torresdale Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition as of 10 p.m.

Small said the shooter fired at the victim at least four times, and that a private surveillance camera recorded the incident.

The shooter, described by police as a white man who may have had red hair, jumped into a white Dodge Stratus that police stopped on Meridian Street near Torresdale Avenue.

However, the suspect was no longer in the car.

"The people inside the car admitted to picking up the suspect," Small said.

They were being interviewed by police in the Northeast Detective Divison Tuesday night, and Small said cops were likely closing in on the suspect.

The car was being held Tuesday night by police, who were dusting it for the man's fingerprints, Small said.

Information on the shooter's motive was not immediately available.
