Girl, 3, grazed by stray bullet in West Oak Lane

POSTED: Friday, June 15, 2012, 9:27 PM

A 3-year-old girl was sitting on the steps of her grandmother’s house on Ridley Street near 20th in West Oak Lane when she was wounded by a stray bullet Friday evening, police said.

The girl’s father and two other men were outside at the time of the shooting. A man approached them and fired at least nine shots while neighborhood children were playing nearby, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The girl was grazed in her right hand and was taken to the Albert Einstein Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition as of 9:20 p.m.

Small said three surveillance cameras at John L. Kinsey Elementary school recorded the shooting, and at least four witnesses were being interviewed Friday night by officials in the Northwest Detective Division.

A detailed description of the shooter was not immediately available.

2-year-old in Logan just got shot in the stomach. Nutter? Ramsay?

Is it politically damaging to speak out against shooting children?

Homies, hoodies, handguns are what 50 years of fatherless children have produced. Thank you democrats for creating this culture of a lack of social and moral responsibilty. But you did bring us bars on school windows, metal detectors, and more prisons. Why would any law abiding person want to live in Philadelphia?

I agree, that anyone who shots a firearm in the direction of a child of even elderly person;whether it hits them or not, should be sentenced to life without parole the very first time. There are only two ways to deal with this mayhem.1,lock them up and throw away the key,2,eliminate them on sight, and bypass the traditional judicial process,to save our taxpayers money.

I don't know anything about Connie Little of a little girl being grazed in the head, what I want to know is why we can't comment of Bob Brady's house being targetted by robbers (? or were they FBI?) and the fact that someone threw a bottle through his office window? What gives? Now this is a story that is sporting for responses....

Why would two drug dealers be caught on tape talking about giving money to Connie Little, a Dem ward leader and close associate of John Street?

The only strays I have to worry about in my neighborhood are stray cats. I'm so thankful I don't live amongst these people.

Umm...what? Would you care to explain your last sentence, or are you going to let thinking people assume that you're a moron?

there should be a law that if you open fire in an area where children are playing you automatically get life. no parole. no questions asked.

Interesting idea! But just know that, in Philadelphia, the thugs would still be out in just a fraction of that time.

Oh, man! That's not that far from me. And it's a shame, because this kind of thing didn't happen in WOL back in the 70's and 80's. It would've been unthinkable. And,of course, this wasn't a random shooting. Even if the child's father wasn't a target, and one of the other guys (or both) was, it doesn't speak highly of the father's choice in friends. At any rate, I'm just glad that the innocent child, who has an idiot for a father (and, perhaps, for a mother, too) will be okay.
