Fire destroys warehouse of stored furniture

Firefighters battled a fierce three-alarm fire this morning that consumed a two-story warehouse full of stored furniture.
The blaze on Ruan Street near Romain broke out just before 10:30 a.m. this morning and consumed the warehouse where furniture was stored. Within 45 minutes, it was a three-alarm blaze. There were no injuries reported, and the structure was believed to be unoccupied.
A sign on the side of the building identifies it as the home of "S.W. Smith and Sons," a moving, hauling and storage company.
The American Red Cross is assisting two families displaced by the blaze.
Fire commanders placed it under control by 12:30 p.m.
