Fugitive arrested in bystander's Black Friday slaying

Police have arrested a Nicetown man wanted since November on murder charges stemming from a shootout outside a bar that left a Nicetown woman dead.

This post has been updated.

A fugitive arrested yesterday for the Black Friday murder of an innocent bystander in Nicetown now is charged with killing a Logan man.

Terrell Antwon, 24, of Cleveland Street near Cayuga, was one of five men charged in the Nov. 23 death of Johnika Tiggett, an innocent bystander felled by a stray bullet in Nicetown. The other four suspects have been in custody since November, but Antwon remained on the lam until officers on bicycle patrol spotted him yesterday on 16th Street near Courtland, said Officer Christine O'Brien, a police spokeswoman. They nabbed him after a short foot pursuit, she said.

Besides Tiggett's death, Antwon also stands charged with murder in last year's slaying of Joel Watson, 41, of Bouvier Street near Wingohocking in Logan, O'Brien said. Antwon allegedly gunned down Watson and a 46-year-old woman, whose name wasn't released, on Watson's block just before 11 p.m. on May 28, 2012. The woman, who suffered graze wounds to her arm, leg and chest, survived the shooting. The motive in that case is listed as unknown, O'Brien added.

Six months after Watson's murder, Antwon and four other men began arguing inside a bar called Buffy's on Dennie Street near Wayne Avenue. The fight spilled out to the street, and all five combatants had guns, firing more than 20 shots at each other, according to police.

One bullet found Tiggett, 25, of 20th Street near Germantown Avenue, who was hit in the head as she tried to leave the bar. She died later that day at Temple University Hospital.

Tiggett didn't know any of the suspects. She had Thanksgiving dinner with her parents, and later decided to head to Buffy's with some friends, police said. The other suspects - Byron McDonald, 20; Anthony Palmer, 34; Roland Thompson, 36; and Rashon Wiggins, 25 - also are charged with murder and related offenses.
