Father and son wounded in Frankford shooting

A 25-year-old man and his 50-year-old father were both shot in the city’s Frankford section late Sunday night, police said, and investigators were working to sort out the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

A 25-year-old man and his 50-year-old father were both shot in the city's Frankford section late Sunday night, police said.

Police were called to the scene, on Adams Avenue near Wingohocking, shortly after 10 p.m., and found the older man shot once in his left forearm and the son suffering three gunshot wounds to his torso and groin.

Both were taken to Temple University Hospital, where the father was in stable condition and the son was in critical condition around 11 p.m., cops said.

Investigators said the father, who told police he works as a corrections officer, appeared to be intoxicated when police arrived, and that witnesses told police they saw him shooting a gun into the air.

Police said the witnesses did not see who shot the son, so they were unsure whether a third person was involved.

A .38-caliber semiautomatic handgun was recovered from the 50-year-old man at the scene, police said. They were still trying to determine whether that was the gun that injured the younger man.

Several shell casings marked the scene on Adams Avenue where the shooting took place. Police continued to investigate early Monday morning.
