Cops injured in W. Philly crash

Three Philadelphia police officers were injured when two of their cruisers collided in West Philadelphia shortly after 4 p.m.

Three Philadelphia police officers were injured when two cruisers collided in West Philadelphia shortly after 4 p.m. today.

Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman, said the 16th District cops were responding to another officer's call for backup when one cruiser t-boned the other at 50th Street and Haverford Avenue. The two officers in the striking cruiser complained of head, neck and back pain, Russell said. The third officer was pinned in when his car was smashed on the driver's side. He was injured by shards of glass that hit him in the face and eyes, police said.

The cops were listed in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Officials said it was possible all would be released later tonight.
