Cops treated at hospital after car accident in Logan

Two police officers are being treated at the hospital after a BMW collided with their cruiser while they were on patrol in Logan.

Two police officers are being treated at the hospital after a car collided with their cruiser Tuesday afternoon while they were on patrol in Logan.

The accident happened shortly before 2 p.m. where Belfield Avenue meets 16th and Louden streets. Police said they are investigating whether the driver of the black BMW that hit the 35th District cruiser had run a red light, as was initially reported.

A police supervisor said both officers were at Albert Einstein Medical Center around 3 p.m. being treated for concussions they suffered in the crash. One of the officers also had injuries to his leg and foot, the supervisor said.

Police said the driver and passenger in the BMW were OK and did not require medical attention.

The police Accident Investigation Division is investigating the crash.
