Cops: Police officer arrested on theft charges

Susan Bannon, a six year veteran of the police department, was arrested for allegedly stealing money from a woman who was in temporary police custody while she was on duty Aug. 30 of 2011, police announced Friday.

Internal Affairs and the District Attorney's Office investigated the case and Bannon, 45, was arrested Thursday.

Police did not disclose how much money Bannon allegedly stole from the woman.

Bannon has been suspended for 30 days with Commissioner Charles Ramsey looking to fire her.

She is at least the 43rd cop to be arrested since 2009, and is charged with theft, receiving stolen property and obstruction of justice, according to court documents. She's scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 14.

Bannon was assigned to the 25th police district, which is headquartered on Whitaker Avenue near Erie in Hunting Park. The district spans Hunting Park, Fairhill, Juniata Park and Feltonville.
