Cops: Teen kidnapped delivery driver, tried to kill him

A 17-year-old Kingsessing boy kidnapped, robbed, and attempted to kill a food delivery driver in June, according to police.

Donovan Daniels, of the 5700 block of Warring Avenue, was apprehended by police after a brief foot pursuit Friday in Frankford, according to a news release from the Philadelphia Police Department. He was charged as an adult with attempted murder, robbery, kidnapping, and related offenses for the violent June 6 incident, which occurred just a block from his home.

According to police, the 34-year-old delivery driver, whose identity was not released, was delivering an order on the 5700 block of Beaumont Street around 10 p.m. when he was approached by Daniels and another, unidentified male.

The two suspects forced the delivery driver back into his own car at gunpoint and then one of them drove the vehicle to an unknown location, police said. Daniels and his accomplice then demanded the delivery driver's money, ordered him out of his vehicle, and told him to get on his knees, police said.

"It was at that time that the complainant heard a loud pop and felt something on the back of his head," the news release said.

The gunmen took the victim's wallet, $60 in cash, and his cell phone and fled the scene in the victim's 1998 Toyota Corolla, which was later found abandoned on the 1700 block of South 57th Street, police said.

The victim survived the gunshot wound to his head and was able to run two blocks to the 1600 block of South 59th Street, where he was located by responding officers. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and listed in stable condition.

While Daniels sits in prison on $2 million bail, police continue to search for his alleged accomplice.
