Cop charged with forging prescriptions

Philadelphia police Officer Sydemy Joanis, along with his partner, Officer Jonathan Garcia, is accused of trafficking drugs and robbing alleged drug dealers while in uniform. He is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery, robbery, and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence.

A Philadelphia police officer is facing federal charges for allegedly obtaining 14 illegal prescriptions of oxycodone by forging a doctor's name.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ofc. Andre Lamont Daniels, 41, forged a physician's signature 14 separate times between 2009 and 2010 to obtain the drug at several area pharmacies.

Daniels has been federally charged with acquiring a controlled substance by fraud and related offenses. He faces a maximum of 56 years in prison, according to the release.

A spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Police Department was not immediately aware of the charges and could not comment on Daniels' current status with the department.
