D.A.: Bail set at $40G for woman who injured kids while driving drunk

Bail for a woman who plowed a car into two children and two adults in Summerdale while allegedly driving drunk Saturday night has been set at $40,000, the District Attorney's Office announced Monday.

Authorities said Erika Williams, 28, was drunkenly speeding in a blue 1994 Oldsmobile down Anchor Street near Summerdale Avenue just before 11 p.m. Saturday when a ball rolled in front of her car. She attempted to swerve and lost control of the vehicle, sending it careening into a group of women and children on the sidewalk, police said. Injured in the crash were a 2-year-old boy who suffered a dislocated pelvis, a 5-year-old girl who suffered severe leg injuries and remains in critical condition, and the kids' 36-year-old mother and a 33-year-old woman, who both suffered minor injuries.

Williams, of Hill Creek Drive near Adams Avenue in Crescentville, was arraigned Sunday and charged with aggravated assault while DUI, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, possession of an instrument of crime and related offenses. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 24.
