Alleged shooter of tow truck driver surrenders

Jose LaTorre Jr., the J & Son's Auto Body employee who allegedly shot a rival tow truck driver earlier this week, surrendered to police shortly before 7 tonight, police said.

Jose LaTorre Jr., the J & Son's Auto Body employee who allegedly shot a rival tow truck driver earlier this week, surrendered to police shortly before 7 tonight, said police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore.

LaTorre, 40, of Vandike Street near Cheltenham Avenue, has not yet been officially charged with the shooting. Yesterday, LaTorre's father, Jose LaTorre Sr., told the Daily News that he wished his son would turn himself over to authorities to bring the dramatic story to a close.

In the aftermath of the shooting, unknown assailants torched 13 cars inside LaTorre's lot at 2nd Street and Erie Avenue. LaTorre blamed the arson on Mystical Complete Auto Service. LaTorre's son allegedly shot a driver from that company.

Mystical officials claimed that someone fired six shots at their office, on Ashdale Street near Front, shortly after LaTorre's lot was burned.
