Suspect in beating of disabled man surrenders

Earlier this week, I wrote a disturbing story about a disabled Upper Darby man who was dragged out of his wheelchair, beaten and robbed by two home invaders who were after his pain pills.

Police caught one of the suspects, Dominic Henderson, the same day as the assault but the other man, Keenan Smith, remained on the run.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said today that Smith, 21, turned himself in last night and there was "no doubt in my mind" he did so because of the media attention the case received.

Chitwood said Smith's lawyer called police yesterday and the two came to the station together around 5:30 p.m.

He was charged with robbery, assault and related offenses and held on $1 million cash bail.
