Heat closes Harrah's Chester horse track

Harrah's Chester Casino & Racetrack announced that it has cancelled live harness racing today due to extreme heat. "Our concern today is with the safety of the horses," a company representative said.

How hot is it? Too hot for horses, apparently.

Harrah's Chester Casino & Racetrack just announced that it has cancelled live harness racing today due to extreme heat.

"Our concern today is with the safety of the horses," said Barry Brown, the Director of Racing Operations.

Harness racing at the 5/8-mile track on the Delaware River is tentatively scheduled to resume Sunday, depending on the weather, company officials said.

Until then, we recommend that you make your way into the air-conditioned casino, order up a whiskey sour and blow your rent money in the off-site simulcasting section.

Update: Parx racetrack in Bensalem has cancelled its live racing tomorrow due to the heat. Scheduled to resume Sunday.
