Wiggins to be named rookie of the year

No back-to-back NBA rookie-of-the-year awards for the 76ers.

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Andrew Wiggins will receive the award on Thursday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune first reported. The Timberwolves also sent out a press release, stating they'll have a press conference Thursday at the Target Center to make a major announcement.

Sixers power forward/center Nerlens Noel was a candidate to win the award. Former Sixer point guard Michael Carter-Williams won the award last season. The Sixers traded Carter-Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks in February.

Wiggins led all rookies in scoring at 16.9 points per game. He scored in double figures in 69 out of 82 games. He also scored 30 or more points four times.

Noel averaged 9.9 points and led all rookies in rebounds (8.1), blocks (1.89) and steals (1.77).
