Stefanski interviews Kurt Rambis

The 76ers have just confirmed that 76ers General Manager Ed Stefanski interviewed Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis for the team's head coaching vacancy.

It is reported that the interview took place yesterday in Los Angeles. Today's interview with Dwane Casey also took place in L.A.

Rambis played in the NBA with the Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, and Phoenix Suns. His only stint as a head coach came during the strike-shortened 1998-99 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Rambis finished that season 24-13 as the team's head coach. Rambis has also served as the Lakers assistant general manager.

    Holy kr@p, is that the same Kurt Rambis who looked like one of the Hansen Brothers during his playing days? Was he on "Extreme Makeover"?

    This is very cool...maybe he can hire the other athletic multi-talented caucasian marc iavaroni as his asst. now if only ed snider would start interviewing replacements for the over-matched incompetent stefanski.

    Here is the major question that isn't even being discussed!!! We may very well have the wrong general manager. Sending Stefanski out to find the new coach is like sending Allen Iverson out to set up a basketball practice. It is not going to happen! Did anyone notice that the Sixers wrapped their entire season around a free agent bust in Elton Brand. Their entir marketing plan was built around Brand and it was a disaster. Don't hire political a schmoozer that is clearly over his head. Hold him accountable for his players that he brought on board. $ 75 MILION IN GURANTEED money for a guy that can not run the floor with the rest of the team. Look at the role players the GM brought in and you will see how poorly they fit in. It wasn't coaching it was the hiring of personnel/the players. The players that made a difference were from Billy King's regime. Ed Stefanski is a nice guy but is in over his head. He talked his way into the NBA. What did the Nets ever do??? He was a runner for their GM. Not exactly the team model now or then that Philadelphia deserves. Get ride of the old boy network and clean house. Time will prove that these statements are and will be accurate. It is nothing personal. It has been a series of bad choices of management decisions. Whatever we do keep Larry Brown a million miles from this organization. Ed Snyder you know hockey and are a great self made business success that I admire but you do not know basketball hence the bad decisions picking the wrong people up in the management offices. Tony DiLeo should be running this entire organization.

    Rickh, can you please name a team in the last decade that won a championship by running? I'm not interested in watching a team whose ceiling is fifth, maybe fourth best in the East. The Sixers need to drop the whole running nonsense, it's not going to win anything but quick exits from the playoffs. Brand is a piece. Brand isn't a bust, only because the Sixers have no outside shooters, so they can double and triple team him without having to worry about the ramifications. Again, the point is to win championships. I don't know if you were at game six, but I never want to see that team ever again.

    Rick H, like most people you are half right on everything. Stefanski's BIG MISTAKE was signing Iguodala to a max money contract. Iggy's a great athlete but NOT a great basketball player. Thaddeus hired a shooting coach in the off season and took hundreds of jumpers everyday; Iggy needs to do the same thing if he's going to play two guard. Giving Iggy the max money contract was also a bad strategic move; we are now hamstrung for bringing in outside talent. Brand can still play effectively; he needs at least this coming year to evaluate his contract. Tell you need Brand for the playoffs because you need half-court post play to win playoff basketball. If Stefanski hires Eddie Jordan, he might as well start looking for another job.

    PSV, your right on the money. Running wins during the regular season when teams are unprepared, are playing two games on the road in three nights or when playing four games in five nights. Running doesn't win in the playoffs.

    yeah, I wonder about Ed as a GM. He had a good season in NJ then what? Gave Brand the kitchen sink... gave AI2 the bathroom sink... now we cant even make an offer for Lebron.

    comcast should sign iverson as a player/coach and produce a reality show about the season for their cable network. the season would be a complete disaster but it would be entertaining as hell to watch..
