Carter-Williams won't play against Hawks

ATLANTA – Michael Carter-Williams will miss his second consecutive game when the 76ers face the Atlanta Hawks Friday night at Philips Arena.

The rookie point guard suffered a left foot arch bruise on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs. Tony Wroten will start in his place for the second straight contest.

Carter-Williams said he's feeling better at Friday's shootaround.

"He does," Sixers coach Brett Brown said of his standout rookie. Sitting him is  "just all the precautionary, smart ways to treat him at this stage and pay attention."

Carter-Williams averaged 17.4 points, 7.6 assists and a league third-best 2.6 steals in the first eight games. The 6-foot-6, 185-pounder was named the Eastern Conference player of the week for the opening week of the season.

He wore a black protective boot while watching the shootaround.

"For right now, I'm just going day-to-day," Carter-Williams said . "I'm just meeting with the trainers. Seeing what they think. Seeing how it feels.

"Like I said, I'm going day-to-day with the trainers and my coach."

The Sixers have confidence in Wroten as a start point guard. They should.

He finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. It was his first career start.
