'Best' and 'Worst' awards: Sixers vs. Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS – My look at some of the best and worst performances and happenings from the Minnesota Timberwolves' 106-99 victory over the 76ers on Wednesday at the Target Center:

Best performance:  I have to give this to Robbie Hummel even though he only played 48 seconds through the first three quarters. The Timberwolves reserve forward scored five clutch points during a 13-3 run that led Minnesota to victory.  With the Timberwolves trailing by one, he made a 21-foot jump shot to give them an 87-86 advantage with 8 minutes, 27 seconds left. It was Minnesota's first lead of the game, and gave it the lead for good. Hummel, who made 2 of 3 three-pointers, finished with 10 points. He also had three rebounds and a steal in 11:39 of action.

Worst performance: Kevin Martin is the runaway winner of this award. The Timberwolves shooting guard was supposed to cause matchup problems for the Sixers. Instead, Martin had a problem making baskets.  He missed his first eight field-goal attempts en route to going 1-for-9 and finishing with five points. Ineffective, Martin sat out most of the fourth quarter.

Best defensive performance:  This award goes to Lorenzo Brown. The Sixers reserve point guard finished with two blocked shots and a steal while constantly providing a defensive presence. He finished with four points, six assists and five turnovers in 19:17.

Best performance in a losing effort: Spencer Hawes has to get this one. The Sixers center had a huge bounce-back game, finishing with 20 points, a game-high three blocks, six rebounds and three assists one game after being held to a season-low two points.

Worst statistic:  This goes to the Sixers' turnovers. They turned Titans turned the ball over 26 times.

Best statistic: This goes to Hawes' three-point shooting performance. The 7-foot-1, 245-pounder made four of his five shots from behind the arc.

Worst of the Worst: This has to go to the Sixers losing a 19-point lead. They could capitalize on horrid shooting night for the Timberwolves.  As a result, the Sixers squandered what would have been a much-needed, confidence-boaster. Dang, Dang, Dang.
