76ers General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that the team has exercised the third-year contract option for forward-center Marreese Speights and the fourth-year options for forward Thaddeus Young and forward-center Jason Smith.

Of the extensions, Stefanski said, "Thaddeus, Jason, and Marreese are there of our young players who have done everything asked of them and contribute to show improvement every time they step out on the court. We are excited about the way they have developed to this point and we are looking forward to them continuing their careers with the Sixers."

The Sixers practiced today at PCOM and will be traveling this afternoon to Queens, NY, where they will play the New Jersey Nets tomorrow night in their final pre-season game.

That fourth year extension is just a formality for Young. The Sixers will look to extend him sometime during the next summer.

Just get rid of Brand and let Speights get the minutes. He looks to be a player where as Brand is lookin for another injury so he can get back to making films without having to work. If the sixers could get a bag of used balls they better take em for Brand.

Hey philly hood, you`re right, that`s a great idea. Let`s just get rid of Brand. It`s not like he`s owed over 65 million dollars and has four years left on his contract. The best, and most financially sound option is to just get rid of him. Oh wait, you have no idea what you`re talking about.

sura, I was hoping you were wrong about size of contract for Brand, but it is apparently even worse: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3480691

We all know that Elton has an 80 million dollar contract Alank. Jefuuetsukusura just subtracted approximately one year's salary from that, which would bring the amount close to 65 million left to be paid to Elton.
