WHAT: Mayor Nutter and Dr. Ackerman will attend a check presentation by Verizon to the Children’s Learning Initiative. Verizon is giving the Children’s Learning Initiative $25,000 to further their work to close the gap in literacy achievement between disadvantaged children and their more affluent peers.

: Verizon spokesman Harry Mitchell said the timing of the grant was a coincidence, noting the company donates about $1 million a year in the region. "It's just part of what we do."
