Vice President Joe Biden just wrapped up a speech to 500 people at a fundraiser for the Committee of 70, playing the dual roles of economic cheerleader and political scolder-in-chief. Biden preached optimism on federal stimulus efforts and health care reform while predicting that critics would make things worse with inaction.
Vice President Joe Biden just wrapped up a speech to 500 people at a fundraiser for the Committee of 70, playing the dual roles of economic cheerleader and political scolder-in-chief. Biden preached optimism on federal stimulus efforts and health care reform while predicting that critics would make things worse with inaction.
"Ladies and gentlemen, things aren't good but they're a lot better," Biden said. "We're no longer debating whether we're going to slide into a great depression. We're debating what the shape of the recovery is."
Biden said some of the choices being made by President Obama may turn out to be mistakes but they have faith in action. He brushed aside criticism that Obama is doing too much.
"Non-decisions are decisions," Biden said. "The decision not to act is a decision that has consequences."
