President Obama Says He Wants To "Rebuild At Home" At Local Fundraiser

President Barack Obama touted his economic policies at home and draw down of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan during a fundraiser at the Hyatt at the Belleveue this afternoon.

Before a crowd of about 800 people, Obama criticized Republicans for pushing tax breaks for the wealthy.

"It's time to start rebuilding here at home, time for some nation-building right here," he said.

Tickets for the event ranged from $100 to $2,500. U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah and U.S. Rep. Bob Brady helped U.S. Sen. Bob Brady introduce Obama.  Former congressman Pat Murphy and several local politicians mingled in the crowd.

Mayor Nutter warmed up the audience for Obama, saying: "the Republicans are counting on the same old tricks from long ago. Listen to what they say. Watch what they do."

Nutter said the GOP was looking out for the private jet crowd. "The only thing I know about jets is Jet Magazine," Nutter said.

A small group from Act-Up twice interrupted the speech until the crowd drowned them out with an Obama chant and pulled down their small signs.  They were calling on Obama to stick to a pledge on funding for AIDS treatment.

After this Obama heads to a fundraiser at Comcast Executive David L. Cohen's house in Chestnut Hill, where tickets are $10,000 to $35,800.
