Nutter Backs Obama's Tax Deal

As many Democrats in Washington attack the tax plan President Obama struck with Republicans last night, Mayor Nutter stood up today in defense of the deal.

"If you're one of the 18,000 Philadelphians or 2 million Americans whose benefits were about to run out, you're probably pretty happy about that," Nutter said.

The agreement would extend Bush era tax cuts for all Americans, not just households making $250,000 or below, as Obama had wanted. But Obama would get an extension of unemployment benefits throgh the end of 2011.

Democrats are not happy with the deal According to the Associated Press, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put out a statement that did not make any commitment to help pass the plan.
