Nutter Gets Trashed at Endorsement

Mayor Nutter's endorsement today by the Guardian Civic League got a little dirty.

The group – which represents 2,500 active and retired African-American police officers – gave their backing to Nutter on Girard Avenue, near 15th. It happened to be trash day on that block. And the sanitation workers out there were not fans of the mayor.

The workers kept running their trash compactor during the event and one worker kept yelling: "We want a contract, we want a contract, we want a contract."

The loudmouth was Doren Carter, a 13-year veteran of the streets department, is a member of AFSCME District Council 33, which has been without a contract since July 2009.

Eventually, Nutter shot back, saying: "I'd love to have one," in reference to the contract.
