Election Day -- Officials Optimistic in West Oak Lane

Here are some more details from Jan Ransom about the gathering for Philly pols hosted by state Rep. Dwight Evans in West Oak Lane today:

Evans said he decided to get a band together to ride through the neighborhood and knock on doors this morning to remind people to vote. "Grass roots building from the bottom up, door to door, house to house and block by block… that's the very way I started out. This is the best way people can be engaged in their democracy. Today is the day for the people to decide. People are fully engaged. It starts with one person. We're voting for the future. This is no special group's country."

Like Evans, other elected officials at the luncheon said they thought Democrats would vote today. U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah said: "The mood is people are serious and determined and they're coming out to vote. It's more a prudent tidal wave when people make turn predictors… it's like the Super Bowl, you got to actually play the game."

And Councilwoman Marian Tasco said voters were coming out to support President Obama.

"The mood is I got to go out and support the president," Tasco said. "I think it's unfortunate the president inherited this whole economic situation. The Republicans gained ground with a negative message. There's some people you can never convince. I just hope the good wins over the evil. Lets hope they don't lose hope and faith. Change don't come over night, it takes time."
