DA Rails Against Budget Cuts

District Attorney Lynne Abraham may be leaving office at the end of the year, but she's going down guns blazing.

Abraham railed against Mayor Nutter today at a City Council budget hearing, saying his proposed cuts to her office would make Philadelphia more dangerous.

Calling it one of the "most disastrous budget cuts in the history of the DA's office," Abraham slammed Nutter for proposing to allocate her office with $25 million in the next fiscal year, compared with an original allocation of $32 million in the current year.

She also criticized the city's claim that she could use some of the cash and assets seized in drug busts to make up the gap. "There is no pot of forfeiture gold," Abraham said.
