City of Brotherly Love, Sisterly Affection and Football Weather

Mayor Nutter led an Eagles pep rally outside City Hall this afternoon, braving the cold with several dozen green-clad fans, cheerleaders, team president Don Smolenski and Swoop to get ready for what the mayor called "real football in real weather."

"There are no fans like Eagles fans, in the greatest sports town in America, the city of Philadelphia, city of brotherly love, sisterly affection, snow, ice, rain - it doesn't matter!" Nutter said. "We play no matter what the weather conditions because we're ready, because we're Eagles! We're Philadelphia's fans!"

When reading a proclamation naming today "NFC East Championship Fly Eagles Fly Day," the mayor brought out the boo birds.

"On. Jan. 4, 2014, the Eagles will start the new year with a faceoff against the New Orleans Saints - boooooooo! - for the postseason wildcard playoffs," he said. "Now, Philadelphia's football fans can feel the unstoppable energy rising from the streets of South Philadelphia."
