A day before Council is set to vote, protesters push for paid sick leave

More than a dozen supporters of a proposal that would require some Philadelphia businesses to provide paid sick leave to workers gathered outside of City Hall Tuesday morning and urged City Council to pass the bill Thursday.

A coalition of groups worked to get 60,000 signatures --some from Philadelphians who support paid sick leave and the names were delivered to Council.

Council will vote Thursday on the bill sponsored by Councilman Bill Greenlee, who said he has the nine votes to get it passed. The Nutter administration and some business leaders say the measure will negatively impact businesses and jobs in the city. Mayor Nutter will veto the bill and Greenlee will need 12 votes for a veto override.

A Daily News poll showed Greenlee has 10 votes and he says he will have enough to get it through this time.
