Willistown Twp. bridge to reopen

The Whitehorse Road bridge over Crum Creek in Willistown Township, which has been closed since September for structural repairs, will reopen Friday afternoon, PennDot said today.

PennDot closed Whitehorse Road on Sept. 17 after an inspection discovered severe undermining beneath the bridge's stone support abutments. Crews worked to reinforce the foundations underneath the two stone abutments and to repoint deteriorated masonry joints on the stone walls of the bridge, located between the intersections of Whitehorse Lane and Fox Chase Road.

The Whitehorse Road bridge was one of four state bridges that were repaired by PennDOT this winter under a $283,007 contact that began in January. Each bridge sustained structural damage late last summer due to impacts from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
