GOP to Menendez: Happy Valentine's Day

WASHINGTON -- How do you express your love in Washington?

With a sly Valentine’s Day card that doubles as a biting partisan attack.

The Republican National Committee is featuring Valentine’s Day e-cards on its Web site, including one that makes a not-so-subtle reference to the most salacious allegations involving New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez.

The card features a smiling Menendez alongside the words “Can I interest you in a romantic get-a-way?”

Conservative Web sites have trumpeted unsubstantiated allegations about Menendez visiting prostitutes in the Dominican Republic. Menendez has firmly denied the accusations and none of the claims have been corroborated.

A second card pokes fun at the budding rivalry between Sen. Frank Lautenberg and Newark Mayor Cory Booker, a likely challenger in 2014. A card featuring Booker reads “Sen. Lautenberg, I’d love to make this valentine a retirement card.”

There are 12 cards on the site, and both New Jersey Senators made it.

If all’s fair in love and war, seems like the GOP is covering both bases at once.
