Camden County College anonymous donor sparks ‘Electric Slide’

With just a few minutes of boogie woogie woogie, dozens of Camden County College staff and students danced their way to $1,000 in donations.

With just a few minutes of boogie woogie woogie, dozens of Camden County College staff and students danced their way to $1,000 in donations.

More than 80 people did "The Electric Slide" on campus Tuesday afternoon, part of a fundraiser sparked by an anonymous donor.

The donor contacted the Camden County College Foundation last week with a challenge: $10 in donations for every person who performed the dance in the same place, at the same time, on the day before classes began.

When other people wanted to join in without dancing — time conflicts, they claim, though two left feet are more likely — the donor agreed to match every $10 donated by a non-dancer.

At 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, the dancers lined up in the Connector Atrium on the college's main Blackwood campus.

Contributions already have exceeded the $1,000 goal, and non-dancers have until Friday to make good on their pledges. The money will go toward scholarships, the school said.

A video of the event is available on the school's Facebook page.
