PROMise Boutique looking for dress donations for Camden juniors and seniors

Fashion design teacher at Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy Santina Upshaw is organizing a prom dress drive and fair to assist those families in financial hardships.

Spring is just around the corner (or is already here with this weather?), and that means high school proms are a couple months away.

In Camden, though, where more than one in three residents live in poverty, prom dresses and accessories are not included in many budgets.

So fashion design teacher at Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy Santina Upshaw is organizing a prom dress drive and fair to assist those families in financial hardships.

PROMise Boutique, which is organized through nonprofit The MVP! Foundation, is asking for prom-appropriate dress donations (short or long) from now through March 5.

On March 17, volunteers will set up shop at Rutgers-Camden Campus Center, and high school girls can shop for dresses, shoes and accessories. The total bill will be no more than $25 per student. But appointments are mandatory to better manage the flow of customers throughout the day.

Upshaw is expecting to dress about 150 young women.
Donations can be dropped off at Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy or if you call Ms. Upshaw at 856-899-9969, and she will arrange a pickup.

Dresses should be no more than three years old and in good condition. Same with shawls, shoes, jewelry and evening bags. Makeup must be new.

Financial donations also will be accepted. For more information, visit www.promiseboutique.net.
