Strouse to join increasingly crowded ad market

Political ad season is heating up.

On Tuesday, Bucks County Democratic House candidate Kevin Strouse will debut a new television ad, according to his campaign.

The ad is at least the second television spot to debut this week for a Congressional contender in southeastern Pennsylvania: Chester County Republican Ryan Costello on Monday also unveiled a TV ad.

The Pennsylvania Governor's race has been flooding the airwaves in recent weeks as well, and national Democrats started running television spots in South Jersey last month.

Strouse's new 30-second spot (viewable here) shows video of the former Army Ranger interacting with his wife and young children, while narration highlights his background and his desire to grow the middle class.

As colleague Jonathan Tamari noted in today's Inquirer, three prominent national forecasting agencies have cast Strouse as an underdog against Republican incumbent Mike Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania's evenly-split Eighth District, which is based in Bucks County. As of June 30, Fitzpatrick also had a significant cash advantage: $1.9 million to Strouse's $268,721.

Strouse campaign manager Brendan McPhillips declined to say how much the campaign would be spending on purchasing airtime, but said in an email that "we plan to be on air through election day."
