Wanted: Volunteers for storm cleanup, sites needing work

Two county men are organizing efforts this weekend in Central and Upper Bucks.

Two Bucks County men are enlisting volunteers to clean up the storm-ravaged central and upper parts of the county this weekend, and they're looking for residents and neighborhoods that need help.

"We have a heck of a lot of volunteers," Paul Dziewisz of Chalfont said Friday, "and we need to know where to send them."

They will meet in the parking lot of Central Bucks High School West, at 375 W. Court St., Doylestown, at 7 a.m. each day before being dispatched to clear downed trees, branches and other debris.

"We won't be doing with power lines," Dziewisz said. "Just grunt work."

Volunteers are asked to bring trash bags, shovels, saws, chain saws, and wheel barrows. SUVs and pickups are needed to get the crews and equipment to the sites.

In Upper Bucks, Dan Bencsik of East Rockhill Township  said he has about a dozen volunteers lined up and can use more help, plus sites that need clearing.

Those volunteers will meet at the municipal parking lot in Sellersville, next to the theater, at 8 a.m. Saturday. They are asked to bring saws, rakes and other tools and equipment.

Donations of water and non-perishable food items will be distributed to residents who have ben without power since Monday, Bencsik said.

The cleanup effort will continue Sunday if an organizer and other volunteers step forward, he said.
