Neighbor helps nab Warminster burglar, police say

Police were called about a stranger lurking around a house. They caught him after he jumped out a window with jewelry in his pockets, they said.

A quick-thinking neighbor helped catch an alleged burglar in Warminster, police reported Thursday.

Mark Teufel, 28, of the 1500 block of West Street Road in Warminster, was arrested Wednesday outside a house, with jewelry in his pockets, police said. He was charged with burglary and related offenses and taken to Bucks County prison on $50,000 bail.

According to a police statement:

The witness saw a young man he did not recognize loitering around a neighbor's house in the 400 block of Valley Road. The witness called 911, then watched the man approach the neighbor's front door and go around to a back door.

Warminster and Warrington police found that the man had broken into the house. As they surrounded the house, an officer spotted Teufel jumping from a side window, and he was arrested.

Teufel allegedly had jewelry in his pockets that had been taken from the house. He was arraigned before District Justice Daniel J. Finello Jr.

Police urged residents to make sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving home and to activate burglar alarms. All suspicious people and vehicles should be reported immediately by calling 911.

Anyone who finds that his or her home was burglarized should leave, go to a safe place, and call 911, police said.
