The Volvo veered off the road in Trevose, rolled several times, crashed and burst into flames, poluice said. A passenger was trapped in the back seat and died, while the driver and front-seat passenger were ejected and survived.

A passenger in a car racing on Route 1 in Trevose was killed in a crash Monday night, while the driver and another passenger were ejected and survived, Bensalem Township police said Tuesday.

The man and two women were in a 2000 Volvo sedan heading north when the car veered off the six-lane road, rolled several times and crashed into supports for a Driver's Choice sign, police said in a statement.

The car then burst into flames with Michelle Price, 19, of North Carolina, trapped in the back seat, police said. Price died before she could be rescued from the burning car.

The Volvo was racing with a white Ford Crown Victoria "at a high rate of speed" near the Street Road and Pennsylvania Turnpike interchanges, an off-duty police officer and other witnesses told investigators.

The driver of the Volvo, Aurelio Xhepaj of Philadelphia, was taken to Aria Health's Torresdale center, where he was listed in critical condition late Tuesday afternoon, an Aria spokeswoman said.

The front-seat passenger, Mary Logan of Philadelphia, was taken to a Capital Health hospital, but her condition was not available.

Alcohol did not seem to be a factor in the accident, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Bensalem Township Police at 215-633-3719.
