OMG! Palin's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant...right now

This is more than a little bizarre. As a few of you know, there were some pretty silly rumors over the weekend that Sarah Palin's youngest child -- the one born this year with Down's syndrome -- was really a child born to her 17-year-old daughter Bristol, and there was some kind of cover-up.

Well, now we know the rumor is false because Bristol Palin is pregnant...RIGHT NOW:

From NBC's Mark MurrayReuters: "The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

I'll leave it up to you to decide what this all means. I'm speechless....adding, not that I'm appalled or think it necessarily should have any impact on Palin's candidacy, just that I find this a pretty surprising twist given the earlier rumors.

And now that the McCain campaign has issued this press release, I think the young woman is entitled to her privacy from here on, so I'm reversing my initial call to use her picture, which was my first instinct (hey, I do still work for a tabloid last time I checked :-) )
