Three days ago, these people were just folks getting ready for dinner or coming home from work and looking forward to spending time with their families -- now their bodies have been dumped outside the morgue because no one even knows where to put them. I can't ever remember seeing a tragedy like this, not in this hemisphere anyway. Here's some information on how we can help the people in Haiti:
InterAction, a coalition of U.S.-based international nongovernmental organizations, has a list of agencies responding and how to donate to them. For the list, go to http://www.interaction.org/crisis-list/earthquake-haiti
American Red Cross: To donate $10 to the American Red Cross, text HAITI to 90999. The amount will be added to your cell-phone bill. Or go to www.redcrossphilly.org or to Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/American-Red-Cross-Southeastern-Pennsylvania-Chapter/68427744917 or Twitter at http://twitter.com/RedCrossPhilly. To donate by phone, call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
Yele Charity: To donate $5 to musician Wyclef Jean's Haitian Yele charity, text YELE to 501501. The amount will be added to your cell-phone bill.
UPDATE: I'm being told that CARE is quite good, so check them out.
Check out the rest of the list here.
I'm off covering a story for the DN tonight....see you Sunday night.
You're doing a heckuva job, Fugate. General_Turgidson

don't expect any charity from the marginalized minority. They already pay taxes and, besides, "those people" made a deal with the Devil a few centuries ago and we all know that the Christianist God isn't the forgiving kind. The Hate Americans First crowd doesn't just hate Americans... E.Plebnista

Comment removed.- I remember a lot of gnashing of teeth from right wingers when some cheered the pain of Rush Limbaugh checking into a hospital for chest pains. Seems they were right to, as he is now exhorting people NOT to donate to Haiti relief. Seems the world indeed would be better off without him after all.
- Conservatives give more to avoid paying taxes. Simple.

Comment removed.- Why are there so many great baseball players from the Dominican Republic, but so few from Haiti? Mr. Smith
Comment removed.- Aren't the real victims of this earthquake those poor freedom fighters who are illegally incarcerated in the gulags of Guantanamo, a scant 200 miles from the epicenter of this tremor? Imagine the suffering of those holy men, having Korans handed to them ..... By...... WOMEN........ Gasp..... While the earth shakes nearby..... Why must these poor victims in Guantanamo be subjected to such cruelty? It's inhumane. Some would certainly call it torture! Mr. Smith
- Can any of these right-wing trolls explain why Rush is telling people not to donate to Haiti earthquake relief? This is the the most alarming manifestation of right-wing conspiracy theory I have ever encountered.
