Fast food giant Burger King has introduced a new item just in time for San Francisco Gay Pride 2014. Dubbed the “Proud Whopper,” it’s a classic Whopper is wrapped in rainbow-colored paper inscribed with the words, "We are all the same inside."
The limited edition burger's release was documented in a short "Be Your Way" film, which can be viewed at Burger King's official YouTube page by clicking here.
But don’t rush out to grab one in Philly. Right now, the "Proud Whopper" is available only at one Burger King outlet in San Francisco through the end of today.
Burger King’s LGBT-friendly campaign is in stark contrast to Chick-fil-A’s, which is still trying to move on past CEO Dan Cathy’s anti-gay marriage comments which he now regrets making public.
Not everyone is gung ho about this sandwich, either. On Burger King’s Facebook page, one critic, Janet Peters, posted, “You went too far and this is one family that in the future won't be patronizing your business. Forcing your political views on customers that don't agree with gay marriage...bad idea. Liberals argue that religion should NOT be a part of any corporation (ie; Hobby Lobby, bakers, Chik-fil-a) but then turn around and say gay pride can be a part of a corporation. Double standard anyone?? How refreshing it would be to just once see the pro--gay community instead of ridiculing, name calling, insulting and making hateful comments practice and give some of the tolerance and respect they want to receive from those of us who are Christians and don't agree with their lifestyle.”
