Football: Timber Creek's Williams signs with Rutgers

Timber Creek coach Rob Hinson thinks the "sky is the limit" for senior Tyreek Williams, especially if he settles into a position at the college level that fits his skill set.

Williams on Wednesday signed a national letter of intent on a scholarship to Rutgers.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Williams played multiple positions on the defensive side of the football in three seasons for Timber Creek.

Williams was a rush end as a sophomore. He played some rush and some linebacker as a junior. He was a linebacker who also played some strong safety as a senior, when the Chargers won the SJ Group 4 title.

"He's going to be phenomenal," Hinson said. "He's not that experienced, didn't play as a freshman. And we moved him around.

"When he settles into one position, he's going to be special."

Williams wore a gray suit and Rutgers hat during a ceremony in Timber Creek's media center on Wednesday afternoon, with a crowd of students and family creating an exciting atmosphere for the athletes who were honored.

"Rutgers is where I always wanted to be," Williams said. "My family can come and see me because it's real close and I like the new coaches, what they represent and what they want to get done."

Williams said it was  "blessing" to earn a Division I scholarship.

"It means I was doing something right and I was around the right people who heped me get here," Williams said. "I'm thankful for my coaches and my family to even put me in this position right now."

Williams said Hinson's demands would be part of his best memories of Timber Creek football.

"I remember coach Hinson always up on me trying to push me to be the best I could be," Williams said. "The hard workouts, the hot summers. The good times."

Williams said he was excited to join a Rutgers program that includes Timber Creek graduates Quanzell Lambert and Myles Nash, a pair of defensive linemen.

"I'm just looking to get developed to my full potential and get up there with my former teammates and get some things done with the new coaching staff."
