Football: Snorweah and Falcons blast Indians

With its ground-and-pound attack in mid-season form, Pennsbury maintained its perfect record against Bucks County neighbor and former Suburban One League National Conference foe Council Rock North.

The visiting Falcons rushed for 324 yards in the first half, finished with 450, and coasted to a 57-20 triumph Friday night at Walt Snyder Stadium in Newtown.

The defending National Conference champions improved their overall record vs. the Indians, who this season moved to the medium-enrollment Continental Conference, to 9-0.

Senior Charles Snorweah led the way for Galen Snyder's squad, carrying 15 times for 236 yards and four touchdowns. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder rushed 11 times for 200 yards and a pair of scores in the first half.

"We wanted to come in here humble, stay focused, and pursue our goal," Snorweah said. "I think we did a pretty good job of that."

In last week's 56-8 rout of Frankford, Snorweah, who is ticketed for Rutgers, switched from halfback to fullback in a wing-T scheme.

"It's been a little different," he said. "To run the ball with my shoulders squared to the defense, that's an advantage for me."

Pennsbury, ranked No. 4 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, improved to 3-0. No. 19 C.R. North slipped to 2-1.

The Falcons totaled 450 rushing yards on 46 attempts. Snorweah is supported by shifty halfbacks Raheem Thompson and Victor Delgado.

Against the overmatched Indians, Pennsbury's offensive line was anchored by center Mason Houriet (6-1, 260), guard Austin O'Neill (5-11, 265), and tackle Sam Raywood (6-1, 375).

"The line blocks great every week," said Snorweah, who scored on bursts of 5, 72, 2, and 29 yards. "Most of the guys have been playing together since middle school. That helps with chemistry."

In the first half, Delgado's 17-yard scamper and Mike Alley's 22-yard TD pass to tight end Vinnie Ratamess produced a 14-0 advantage.

Alley, a 6-4 junior southpaw, transferred in this year from Conwell-Egan. His presence kept the hosts on guard for the pass and left running lanes open. "He had an impact just by being there," Snyder said.

For C.R. North, standout junior QB Brandon McIlwain connected on 19 of 31 throws for 192 yards and three scores. He rushed 20 times for 80 yards.
