Football: Prep's Reid ends recruiting process, chooses Penn State

Sought after by top-notch college football programs since early in his high school career, St. Joseph's Prep senior cornerback John Reid ended the recruiting process Friday by committing to Penn State.

"Penn State has always been his school of choice," Prep coach Gabe Infante said. "He felt really comfortable there. It wasn't necessary to continue the process any longer."

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Reid, a speedy player with terrific instincts, also had scholarship offers from Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame, among others.

He recently took an unofficial visit, which included a barbecue, to State College. "In the end, proximity and familiarity were big factors for him," Infante said.

Last season, Reid, also dangerous as an offensive handyman and kick returner, helped the Hawks go 12-3 and claim their first PIAA Class AAAA state championship.

Before he pledged to Penn State, it was expected that Reid would take most if not all of his official recruiting visits.

"When a kid chooses a college, it should be like a youngster waking up on Christmas Day," Infante said. "And that's how John feels. He's really excited and happy."
