Basketball: Willingboro overwhelms Medford Tech

Terique Robinson (pictured) scored 19 points with 15 rebounds to lead Willingboro to an 85-55 victory over Medford Tech Tuesday night in a Burlington County League Patriot Division game.

Thomas Farrior and Awwal Reid each scored 16 for Willingboro (13-6, 7-2), which played its most complete game of the season according to coach Jeff Haddock.

"It was senior night, and they seized that moment," Haddock said of his team.

The loss kept Medford Tech (16-7, 10-1) from clinching a share of the division title. Junior forward Dennis Tunstall led the Jaguars with 11 points, including a 70-foot shot at the buzzer in the third quarter.

"We get one more crack at the conference," said Medford Tech coach Nick Powell, whose team could clinch the division with a victory over Pemberton on Thursday. "We've got to find a way to get out of this funk."

Willingboro lost 57-52 to Medford Tech Jan. 4. But the Chimeras have won five of six, and look like a strong contender in the Central Jersey Group 2 tourney.

Haddock and Robinson said Willingboro has gotten a big lift from the recent addition of guards Devon Shelton and Bryce Chapman.
Shelton, a transfer from Trenton who recently became eligible, scored eight points with four steals and three assists.

His ball-handling enables Willingboro to move junior Jeff Haddock, the coach's son, to the wing along with Farrior, giving the Chimeras more potent outside-shooting game and balanced offensive approach.

"We're 15 points better with those guards," the coach said of Shelton and Chapman, who transferred from Rancocas Valley as his family moved to Willingboro.

Willingboro scored 59 points in the second half as Robinson scored 10 in the third quarter and Farrior scored 15 after intermission.

"They're a lot better than the last time we played them," Powell said of Willingboro.

Willingboro remains alive in the division race. If Pemberton beats Medford Tech on Thursday, and Willingboro beats Pemberton when the teams meet later this month (Pemberton won 68-63 in the season opener), the three teams would share the division crown assuming neither the Chimeras nor the Hornets lose another division game.

"We're playing together a lot better as a team," Robinson said. "I believe we're dangerous."
