Football: West Deptford's Worthy commits to Old Dominion

By Phil Anastasia

West Deptford senior Isaiah Worthy has committed to old Dominion University on a football scholarship.

Worthy said Monday he made his decision after making an official visit to ODU this past weekend.

"I met the whole coaching staff and just had a really good time," Worthy said. "They are a great group of guys and I can't wait to play for them."

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Worthy was a first-team All-South Jersey selection as a linebacker. He said he was recruited as a linebacker by ODU.

Worthy led West Deptford to a 9-1 record and the Colonial Liberty title as a senior.

Worthy said ODU's campus in Norfolk, Va., was "beautiful" and noted that the football program is in the process of moving up to the NCAA Division 1 FBS level after years at the FCS (old 1-AA) level.

ODU has joined Conference USA as part of its move up to the highest level of college football.

"It's an exciting time to be going down there," Worthy said.

Worthy said he plans to major in pyschology.

Worthy becomes the fourth South Jersey player to commit to ODU. The others are Kingsway's Ray Lawry, Williamstown's Marques Little and Timber Creek's Justice Davila.

"I've known Ray Lawry since the fourth grade," Worthy said. "I know Marques Little from football. Those guys were telling me I should commit. It's going to be a lot of fun going down there with those guys and finally being on their team."
