Basketball: Vaux's Jordan bound for St. John's

Roberts Vaux senior guard Rysheed Jordan announced earlier this morning on Twitter that he has, as anticipated, committed to play at St. John's.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound standout chose St. John's over nearby Temple and UCLA.

In the recently completed season, Jordan averaged 24.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.3 steals. He drilled 53 three-pointers in 30 appearances.

Jordan directed Vaux, which is set to close in June, to a 24-8 record and the PIAA Class A state championship. In the final at Hershey's Giant Center, he posted 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in an 83-63 win over District 6's Johnsonburg.

St. John's coach Steve Lavin twice visited Jordan, The Inquirer's Southeastern Pennsylvania player of the year, in the playoffs. He was at La Salle High for Vaux's 68-64 win over Church Farm on March 15.

Jordan, who is ranked No. 22 in the country in the Class of 2013 by ESPN, cannot sign a binding letter of commitment until April 17.
